About Courchevel:
Courchevel is a winter sports resort located in the Tarentaise valley and situated in the municipality of Courchevel (until 2016, the municipality of Saint-Bon-Tarentaise), in the Savoie department, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The first French resort converted into a virgin site in 1946, it is part of the Three Valleys ski area.
The resort is organized around five villages: Saint-Bon-Tarentaise (chief town), Courchevel Le Praz (formerly Courchevel 1300), the village of Courchevel (formerly Courchevel 1500), Courchevel Moriond (formerly Courchevel 1650), and finally Courchevel (formerly Courchevel 1850). The latter, which gives its name to the train station, is the first nucleus of development where the works of urban architect Laurent Chappis and engineer Maurice Michaud are applied. This new mountain urbanization was listed in the supplementary inventory of historical monuments in 1998, and around thirty sites are protected as historical monuments.
The resort is not limited to the winter season and skiing practices alone; it has acquired collective leisure and sports facilities, such as a water park opened in December 2015, and offers other mountain-related activities in summer, including hiking or mountain biking, as well as its international fireworks art festival or the organization of contemporary art exhibitions.
